DATA RETENTION POLICY

Keep what makes the study tools work—until you delete it.

This schedule describes current retention behavior. Effective August 30, 2026.

Independent preparation

OrthoTech Prep is not affiliated with, sponsored by, approved by, or endorsed by the National Board for Certification of Orthopaedic Technologists, Inc. Its practice questions are not official NBCOT examination items.

Account and study records

Your email, display name, attempts, item-level progress, bookmarks, reading completion, and review schedule are retained while your account data remains active so that history and recommendations work across sessions and devices. The site currently does not automatically expire active study history.

Question reports

Submitted issue reports—including category, text, question identifier, account email, status, and submission date—are retained with your account data so that problems can be investigated and tracked.

Browser data

Your theme preference remains in local browser storage until you clear site data or change the preference. OrthoTech Prep uses an essential sign-in cookie to keep you signed in; it may end when you sign out or the session expires.

Deletion

Using “Delete my study data” permanently removes the profile, attempts, bookmarks, question progress, reading records, and question reports connected to your account email from the application database, then signs you out. Deletion cannot be undone. Limited security logs or backup copies maintained by infrastructure providers may persist temporarily according to their operational schedules.

Export before deletion

You can download a machine-readable JSON export before deleting your data. The export includes your profile identity, attempts, bookmarks, item progress, reading records, and submitted reports as stored at the time of export.

Policy changes

Retention periods may be refined as the service matures or legal obligations change. Any materially longer use of personal information will be disclosed before it takes effect when required.

These policies describe the current service and are intended to be clear and readable. They do not reduce any rights that cannot lawfully be waived.
